| Plan a weekly Menu
This one habit saves my clients more time, money and calories than they ever knew possible! It can take as little as 5 minutes and takes so much stress out of a busy week. Some clients have initially been apprehensive about doing this for whatever reason. They feel that they cannot plan that far ahead, they perceive it as inflexible, too restrictive, etc. In fact, to begin with, I actually avoided doing this with clients as it somehow seemed as though we were placing that person on a diet with rules and regulations to follow. I must say, my ideas around this have completely transformed, especially once seeing how much it revolutionises a person's life. Instead of being restrictive and inflexible, it takes so much stress and burden away. Since you are planning it yourself anyway, it is full of food you like and that fits in with your schedule. If you know Monday is a particularly bad night- you are always in late and have little time or energy to prepare anything healthy, then you can plan ahead for this. Over the weekend make a stew, soup or other meal that is “ready-to-go”. You can make things way ahead of time by being freezer savvy. Did you know you can freeze portions of rice to have it on had any time you may need? Ok, so how to do it? Simply sketch out dinners for every evening, add in lunches and come up with a few snack ideas! Many clients find having a similar meal as dinner, for lunch the next day, an easy, time-saving and satisfying way of “killing 2 birds with one stone”. For example, Tandoori chicken and veggies for dinner, makes a sensational Tandoori chicken salad for lunch the next day. If you are a notorious breakky skipper, plan these! Perhaps prepare ahead and chop up a large fruit salad to portion into containers for the week. That way each morning all you need to do is grab and go! A little time invested early can save a stack of time, energy and sanity later! This one tip has saved many of my clients up to $150/week off their budget! How? Reliance for take-away is diminished and the realisation that they were buying more than required surfaced. Try it for yourself, invest 5 minutes each week and see what benefits arise for you and your family.
